General Information

Paradise Lane (St. Peter’s) Pre-School provides high quality pre-school nursery education, embracing the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework for children aged 2 years to school age.

We first opened our doors to the under 5's in January 1994. In 1997 we entered into the newly created Nursery Education Scheme, which has now developed into Sefton’s Early Years and Childcare Service and SureStart. The setting has had very successful OFSTED inspections in 1997, 1999, 2003, 2004, 2007 and most recently June 2010, in which OfSTED judged the setting as OUTSTANDING in all areas.

Copies of our Inspection reports are available for your perusal.

The staff members at Paradise Lane (St. Peter’s) work as a team and adult : child ratios are met as follows:-

Children under 3 years old  - 1 adult  : 4 children

Children over   3 years old   - 1 adult  : 8 children

1 Early Years Professional : 13 children (although we operate a 1:8 ratio to ensure quality)

These ratios are are legal requirement, however in order to provide high quality care and learning we more than often have extra practitioners available, and so exceed these minimum requirements.

We are committed to giving all children in our care a high quality and enjoyable early years experience. To enable us to do this all of our staff are highly trained in the early years field and we regularly carry out research to ensure we are up to date with current thinking, practice and legislation relating to early years.

Staff have a sound knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework. This is a statutory document which guides our principles and work with our youngest children.

We value play as the most effective vehicle for children's learning, and so offer an environment and experiences which allow the children the opportunity to learn at a deeper level.

We have a strong learning ethos here at Paradise Lane which is reflected in the graduate led workforce. It is a government recommendation that every early years setting employs an EYP (Early Years Professional) by 2015, however we have already achieved this Five years ahead of schedule as our Manager achieved Early Years Professional Status in 2010

The staff at Paradise Lane understand and value that as a parent you are your child's first and most important educator. To ensure that we meet your child's every need we very much value your contribution to your child's learning journey during their time here at Paradise Lane.

It is a requirement within the EYFS that every child is allocated a key carer. Here at Paradise Lane we highly value this relationship between child, key carer and the child's family and so we are very mindful to fulfil this requirement to the highest standard. This work of a key carer involves forming an attachment with the child and their family by working closely together, regular observations of the child and using these observations alongside information from other carers to plan individual learning experiences and opportunities that will interest the children.

Our links within St. Peter’s parish and Formby community are highly valued – including St. Peter’s Church, local schools, the library and toddler groups.

Children leaving the Pre-School attend many of Formby and surrounding areas primary schools and independent schools.

We are committed to ensuring that each child experiences an effective transition to school and so we keep strong links with all school’s Reception teachers and (where necessary) Special Educational Needs co-ordinators so that each school is prepared for your child joining their school.

Government funding, for the Early Years Foundation Stage Education, for all children, is available in the term following a child’s 3rd birthday.
